This was great, Jim. I believe loss of identity is a major problem in the church as well as in our society. People have no idea who they really are. I think you brought up a good point about when someone loses their job, they feel like they’ve lost their identity. I think this goes along well with your podcast on callings. We’ve got assignments but we confuse our assignments with our calling and when those assignments are over we feel adrift without a purpose. For me, a major breakthrough was when I began to separate my assignment from my calling.
At this point in my life, I’m still in the process of discovering who I am and each new piece of the puzzle makes me feel more complete. It’s definitely been a great adventure. Thanks for posting these videos.

So true, Aida. I think it is important to try to find an assignment that matches our calling, but sometimes they don't exactly line up. Only God can tell us if a current job is right at the time. However, our calling can't be contained in any single assignment or job.
One of the key questions to ask God is, "Is this job where you are assigning me now? Do I need to stay, leave?"
Hey Jim,
Fabulous! The main thing that I liked was "Don't follow others' scripts for you." Most people find this very difficult because the world is trying to pigeon-hole us constantly. When I feel this happening I take it head-on and tell the person who is doing that to stop. "Now don't try to tell me who I am. I *know* who I am!" ha ha ha.... Once in a church a pastor's wife said to me, "Meredith, you won't do great things in life, but you will *help* others do great things." "Seriously, lady, you really think that." And she said it out of the blue like she was paying me a compliment...Good grief....I laughed at her. I had already had an amazing life at that point and had done great things already. It was like a joke to me. It was a sophmoric attempt to diminish me.
There is nothing more dangerous than a woman or man who knows her/his identity and lives in it. It's deliciously seditious....:0) Now, I'm flattered when people try this....reminds me I'm doing something right.
Meredith :0)
Hey Meredith -- false scripts lead to false selves. It's so sad.
